Plus size patterns?

topic posted Mon, January 1, 2007 - 11:17 AM by  Michelle
Hey, I posted this in one other place, so forgive the double post... I figured someone in here might have some info for me.

I don't sew, this is out of need, not desire to learn (though I think it will be fun). I have tons of fabric... but I'm a 28-32 size gal looking for SIMPLE and INEXPENSIVE (or free) patterns for skirts/pants/tops. I'm broke right now and have been for a while... but hey, a girl still needs clothes. And the ones I own (supersales from Catherines a year and a half ago) are falling apart. My 3 pants are just not holding up like I need them to (since they are rotated and washed so often). They are nearing threadbare, and getting there fast. So if you know of any online places to get plus patterns (free?), could you let a girl know? I can't find much. And I don't have a credit card, though in a pinch, I could probably scrounge up the can-money to send in a money-order...

Pretty please? A little help would go a long way here.... thank you so much!

If you like the pants, they're your best pattern. Either take one pair apart (and add on 1/2" around for seam allowance) or trace them onto paper and make a pattern from them.

Jackets are a little tougher, but Khaliah Ali has a nice line of patterns in larger sizes. one pattern will make a jacket, dress, or shirt - well worth a US$5 investment. (I know the Simplicity site says $10, but you can find them on sale) www.simplicity.com/index.cfm

Sign up to the portland freecycle yahoo group. Request either the patterns or the clothes of the appropriate size. That way you'll be able to tear a set apart in a first step towards building your patterns! You might also be able to score good, free fabric as well.
